County Clare, also known as the ‘Banner’ County is located on the west coast of Ireland in the province of Munster.

The most populated town in county Clare is Ennis. Shannon and Kilrush are the other two main towns in the county. County Clare is dotted with many small towns and villages throughout which include Ennistymon, Scarriff, Newmarket on Fergus, Sixmilebridge, Doora and Kilfenora. County Clare is also popular with surfers and many head to the beaches of Doolin, Donnbeg, Kilkee, Killaloe, Spanish Point and Lahinch to take on the Atlantic.

County Clare is known for its beautiful natural scenery. The Burren, a unique karst area, which contains rare flowers and fauna and stretches over 100 miles across the north of the county is one of the main attractions in Clare along with the Cliffs of Moher, Scattery Island, Ballyea waterfall, the Ailwee Caves and historic treasures like Bunratty Castle and Dromoland Castle.

County Clare has a strong history of traditional music and is home of the Kilfenora Céilí Band. Lisdoonvarna is famous for its traditional music and its matchmaking festival. County Clare has long been a place of retreat - the Irish Literary Revival movement based itself in Coole House, the home of Lady Augusta Gregory who played host to the likes of WB Yeats, Sean O'Casey and Douglas Hyde. Miltown Malbay is also home to Oidhreacht an Chlair, an institute for higher education in all aspects of Irish tradition, history and literature.

County Clare is served by one main national primary road: the N18 which connects Limerick to Galway. Bus Éireann run frequent routes to and from the majority of large towns in County Clare. Shannon Airport is also located in Co. Clare and is the second busiest airport in Ireland. Shannon Airport serves many international destinations but most traffic to the airport is from the United States.
